Fort Collins Cycling
The Fort Collins cycling community would have to be one of the most important reasons we moved to this city. It is a "Northern Colorado Active Lifestyle Mecca". If you live here, you know...practically everyone rides, runs, hikes, or generally spends most of their time outside, thanks to our 300+ days a year of sun. We chose Fort Collins to relocate for a way of life, and the cycling community and active racing scene was a huge draw to the area. We like to share, particularly when it comes to growing our community and staying active, so here are some of our favorite links to Fort Collins Cycling Resources...we hope to see you around!
Lee's Cyclery-a north AND south location!
Lee's is known well by the Fort Collins Cycling Community. One location is on the north side of town in Old Town (corner of Mason and Laurel), and the southern location is on the SW corner of the Harmony and Lemay intersection. The staff at both stores can help everyone from the new recreational rider, to the competitive cyclist. A true community shop, they have been a fixture here since 1963. There are also some mountain and road bike ride maps on their site, if you are new to town.
Velo-One Cycling Club- a true community!
We were grateful to have become involved with Velo-One Cycling Club very soon after our arrival to Fort Collins. We've sponsored the club since 2007, and offer a discount to current members. It is a true community club. Cyclists and their families attend Friday evening pot luck dinners once a month, as well as beginning and end of season picnics. During the season, there are moonlit city trail rides (Gary and I led the group in 2009), camping trips, as well as a season opening bike camp in Estes Park. If you are new to town, and want to feel welcome, join us as members of this club!
Your Group Ride Website
YourGroupRide.com was started by Dan Porter, a well known local cyclist. It has evolved into a site to get all things cycling in Fort Collins.
Fort Collins City Trail System Bike Map
Gary is on the more competitive side of Fort Collins cycling. He enjoys the faster group rides (as well as his mountain bike rides)...but I have more fun playing away from traffic, usually with a couple of kiddos in tow, either on trail-a-bike, or buggie, on our fabulous trail system. Here is a link to a city map of the Fort Collins cycling trail system, which allows you to travel nearly anywhere in town, without having to ride with the motorists.
